"No one should be fooled."

You can say that again. Don't let Norton fool you into thinking she has had a change in heart:

GALE NORTON GIVES GREEN LIGHT TO ALASKA WOLF SLAUGHTER

.................................................................

http://bobwhitson.typepad.com/howlings/videomusic/

Background
Late in the evening on Friday, April 11, 2003 the Interior Department entered into a settlement agreement with Governor Leavitt in which Secretary Norton committed to never again allow the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) to designate Wilderness Study Areas on the public lands it manages. This agreement strips away special protections for millions of acres of pristine Utah lands, allowing for potential damage to their pristine character and thereby ruining their suitability for wilderness protection.

This is such an exciting story. I've only been to Maine a couple of times but it is one of my favorite places in memory. I hope the region plans for increased recreation/tourism in ways that protect and enhance the environment that will be gradually restored under the new agreement, and that respect the needs and traditions of local communities. such promise in this news . . .
