		<description>Thanks, cs. Yes, she's to the right of other Northeast "moderate Republicans" on foreign and military affairs. And this is a vanishing breed. She's clearly to the right of someone like a Jeffords, or the late Claiborne Pell. Her reputation does more or less hold on domestic issues. She's been independent and courageous on energy/environment stuff like the Energy Bill and ANWR. So, we do try to convey some appreciation for the tidbits she does give us.</description>

As I read I imagined parts of your post as a full-page &lt;i&gt;caveat emptor&lt;/i&gt; in the Portland paper, reminding voters of how Snow neglected alternative voices about WMD evidence and and chose to  BushCo's snake oil instead.

Out here in the Midwest Sen. Snow is often portrayed as one of a few potential protectors of traditional -- i.e., moderate -- conservatism and the Republican Party. Your account of her pre-war role sounds like she has much in common with the reactionary GOP to me  . . .</description>
