Chomsky's point about the Bible -- Bush and Co obviously don't believe what it says -- could be a way to engage people who obviously cannot accept that needless pain and suffering are caused as a direct result of US foreign and military policy. Jesus gave the Golden Rule in the Sermon on the Mount: Do unto others....A good Christian knows the rest. The clear truth about what the US has done in Iraq -- that it is a Nuremberg-level Crime Against Peace -- will not be taken seriously in the face of US power. Remember, Nuremberg was victors' justice.

Hazelhurst, Georgia...yeah, that figures. And since when is it YOUR job to determine just who's patriotic, sport? Is it patriotic to get a cushy Texas National Guard spot instead of going to Vietnam? Is it patriotic not to even fullfill those nominal obligations and be, to this very day, AWOL? Is it patriotic to send other people's children to die on foreign soil for Exxon/Mobile's bottom line??? You redneck/Nazi flag-wavers give me the pip. You're so full of venom that you can't see the truth that's biting you on the backside. Somehow, for you, it's not fascism if WE do it. Sorry, fella, but they convicted people at Nuremberg for just what our government is doing in Iraq: illegal invasion, massacre and torture.

OK, I caught the Simpson interview on rebroadcast.

That was weird. Simpson was outraged at Maher for alleged bigotry against gays?

I can at least understand his position that the left doesn't take seriously the feelings of persecution among the Christian Right and small staters.

But gays? Did Simpson follow this election?

I love this country because I can discuss openly how much I hate the hypocritical administrations who funded terrorism through Saddam Hussein He used "duel purpose" materials to make WMD's to use against the Kurds, Iranians, and other political opponents. I love this country because we can discuss openly why previous administrations were openly anti-democratic in supporting coupes in democratic muslim countries that weren't as extremist as they are now. I love how we can openly discuss how the same officials that endorsed these acts of terrorism, Donald Rumsfield and Dick Cheney (former CEO of Haliburton), were reappointed to continue piss off Muslims and let the American people shed blood so that they could enrich their political backers like Haliburton with a blatant no bid contract.

I'm glad there is an open Internet in America so that I can read why basically bombing the Iraqis to oblivion then pretending there aren't possibly 100,000 Iraqi deaths is disingenuous.

I punched that much in myself (took me almost two hours). While the Chomsky interview is complete, the segment with the panel is partial only. I do have a tape. It will also repeat several times between now and early Thursday morning. Check the listings, but I think it'll be on HBO2-East at 8:00pm tonight, HBO2-West at 11pm; and Wednesday: HBO-E 12am; HBO-W, 3:00am; HBO-E, 11:30pm; Thursday: HBO-W, 2:30am. All times I quote are EASTERN.
