It makes my blood boil. And I bet you that in their defence all the pro-war Dicks will promote all the advantages of a world without Saddam. Using this zero-sum logic may fool the people for some of the time but not for posterity. History and hindsight are our greatest defence. I would recommend that you all read Gilbert Achar's latest book "The Clash of Barbarisms", a gem. I would also recommend that you read out-of-the-box thinkers like economist Paul Krugman. Cheers

Normally I'm not a huge fan of Matthew Rothschild of The Progressive magazine. (They've taken to running liberal hawk pieces lately. For shame, that was one of the great anti-war publications of the 20th Century.)

But Rothschild had a good riff on Cheney on kpfa Tuesday morning:

``It's just amazing that Cheney of all people would talk about being dishonest and reprehensible. I think it's on his business card, isn't it? ... Cheney was the biggest manipulator and liar leading up to the Iraq war. So it's no wonder, I suppose, that he gets all heated when people call him on that...[Just days before Bush launched this war in March 2003], Cheney went on Meet the Press and told Tim Russert that Saddam Hussein not only had reconstituted nuclear weapons programs, but had reconstituted nuclear weapons..."

The previous week, a report delivered to the UN Security council by International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Dr. Mohamed ElBaradei said exactly the opposite. Certainly at the time, ``everybody'' did not agree with Cheney that Saddam ``had'' such weapons. Dick Cheney is a jackass.

"I disagree with Jack and believe his proposal would not serve the best interests of this nation."

These types of comments are almost his most ridiculous ones. To refer to a respected represenative by his first name is intentional, and it isn't because Cheney things Murtha is his best friend. It's a calculated move to show a lack of respect, in the same way that we have been taught to refer to Saddam Huessin by his first name.

So from now on, I think I'll refer to Vice President Cheney only as Dick. Hey, if the name fits...

Thank you for other the little stint on Cheney. I suppose it is not too often that comedians have a difficult job of parodying political leaders, especially in these times. However, Cheney is an easy gig since he only has to open his mouth and your material is written. I hope Cheney et al give up this facade soon; it's waring everyone down.

Eric & Co.,

I poked through the source on the Daily Show page and put together a direct link to the video you mention at the start. Instead of sending people to the front page and then having them click on the Headlines link (which will soon be outdated), set your links to this page:

http://www.comedycentral.com/sitewide/media_player/play.jhtml?itemId=25322

Another exceptional post, and a reason Deep Blade is one of my home pages.

One,
Isaac
