As an Anglo-Irishman (mother Irish, father English) having grown up during the troubles, had the British Government decided to bomb residential areas in Catholic neighbourhoods of Belfast, in the wake of a terrorist attack in London, there would have been a justifiable outcry from all party affiliates. Why? Because as ignorant as the Briitsh government were at the time, the bombing of civilians in order to get at IRA ringleaders was unthinkable, nay, not even mentioned. I don't even have to explain why and I pity anyone who doesn't understand the obvious connotations of such a retaliation. I interpret the IDF/Iraeli government's actions as racist and barbaric and wholly unjustifiable. Indeed, as one Zahera Harb, former Lebanese journalist who covered the first Qana massacre of over 300 civilians, mentioned yesterday, the Israelis had broken an accord, following the Hezbulah killing of 8 Israeli soldiers and capture of 2, between Hezbullah and the IDf regarding the resolution of hostage issues between the two groups, an accord which I believe was established in April of 1996. In other words, despite Hezbullah's crimes, Israel's reaction was totally unwarranted and totally unjustified since it had the option of pursuing another less bloody course of action. This fact coupled with the fact that this barabric "war" was in the offing a year ago says it all really. Utterly disgusted.
