Mackey Lake

Shield rock in the Nickel Belt
These scenes were photographed while driving Rt. 17 across Ontario today. That second shot was taken out the car window while at a speed of about 80 km/hr. The rock is that close to the road.

Last August, we drove around Lake Superior. We were watching the news about Katrina from places like Thunder Bay and Sault Ste. Marie. When we got back to the States, gas was $3 a gallon. We saw lots and lots of rocks like this. Did you see all the little rock pile markers? There’s a name for them; I don’t remember. This past July, we stayed at the “cottage” of one of Dorothea’s co-workers at a little lake a few miles north of the Trans-Canada in western Ontario, very close to the Manitoba border.

Hey David! We saw some cairns, though not very many. This area is near Sudbury, where you go when you take Rt 17 east from Soo.
Hey! We’ll be in the St Paul area next week. Will let you know…
